NinjaTrader is a trading platform, but the account behind it can sit on different connections. Which one yours uses decides whether Heron Copier can copy it, and how you connect it. This page explains which NinjaTrader accounts work, how to check yours, and what to do if it is not covered.
Heron Copier supports NinjaTrader through its native Tradovate connection, because NinjaTrader and Tradovate share one login and one backend. It runs in the Heron Copier cloud only, so you keep trading in NinjaTrader as usual and the copying happens on our servers.
Which NinjaTrader accounts work
The Tradovate connection covers three kinds of account:
- NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts.
- Tradovate brokerage accounts.
- Prop firm evaluation and funded accounts that run on Tradovate. These show up as Demo / prop-firm, because the firm hosts them in Tradovate's demo environment.
Accounts the Tradovate connection does not cover
NinjaTrader 8 desktop can also connect to accounts held through Rithmic or CQG. Those are not reached through the Tradovate connection, even though you trade them in NinjaTrader.
If your account connects through Rithmic, connect it to Heron Copier with the Rithmic integration instead. You enter your Rithmic username, password and system, and you can keep trading the account in NinjaTrader. Trades you place on a Rithmic master from any platform are picked up and copied.
Accounts that connect through CQG are not supported.
How to tell which connection your account uses
The quickest test is to sign in. Add a Tradovate account in the Heron Copier dashboard, click Connect Tradovate and log in with the same username you use for NinjaTrader. If your account appears in the Trading Account list, it is covered.
If it does not appear, look at the login details your broker or prop firm sent you. A Rithmic account comes with a Rithmic username and a system name, such as Apex, Bulenox or Rithmic 01, and the connection you set up in NinjaTrader 8 is a Rithmic connection. A CQG account uses a CQG connection.
Keep trading in NinjaTrader
Nothing is installed in NinjaTrader. A master account is followed by its positions in real time, so trades are picked up whether you place them in the NinjaTrader desktop, web or mobile app, or a strategy places them for you.
One thing to watch: the login allows two sessions at a time, and Heron Copier uses one of them. Keep at most one NinjaTrader or Tradovate app signed in with the same login. If you open a third, for example the desktop app and the phone app together, the oldest session is closed and a signal can be missed while the copier reconnects.
Your password is never sent to Heron Copier. You sign in on Tradovate's own page and approve the connection, and you do not need an API add-on or a market data subscription.
Copy NinjaTrader to other accounts
Because NinjaTrader accounts use the Tradovate connection, the pair pages are listed under Tradovate. To copy one NinjaTrader account to others, see Tradovate to Tradovate. Each slave gets its own sizing, per-symbol lot caps and balance or equity thresholds.
You can also copy your NinjaTrader trades to a CFD prop account with Tradovate to MT5, or bring trades from MetaTrader into NinjaTrader with MT5 to Tradovate. An alias such as NAS100=MNQ maps the CFD to a micro future. Other futures platforms work too, for example Tradovate to Rithmic and TopstepX to Tradovate.
Slaves trade whole contracts. Sizes are rounded to the nearest contract and trades below half a contract are skipped, so test the copied size on a demo account first.

Frequently asked questions
Does Heron Copier support NinjaTrader 8?
It supports NinjaTrader accounts on the Tradovate connection, which includes NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts, whichever NinjaTrader app you trade them in. NinjaTrader 8 desktop accounts that connect through Rithmic or CQG are not covered by that connection.
My NinjaTrader account is on Rithmic. Can I still copy it?
Yes. Connect it with the Rithmic integration using your Rithmic username, password and system. It can then be a master or a slave, alongside your Tradovate-based accounts.
Is CQG supported?
No. Accounts that connect through CQG cannot be copied with Heron Copier at the moment.
Do I need to install anything in NinjaTrader?
No. There is no NinjaScript add-on or indicator to install. The copier connects to the account directly from the cloud, so it keeps running when your computer is off.
Can I copy NinjaTrader accounts with the free trial?
Yes. The 7-day trial includes 2 cloud accounts, enough for a master and one slave. During the trial a futures slave copies every trade at a fixed 1 contract; a paid license unlocks the other sizing methods.
