Tradovate Trade Copier

Copy Tradovate futures trades to other Tradovate accounts, other futures platforms or CFD accounts, without handing over your password.

Heron Copier connects to Tradovate natively and copies every position change on a master account to as many slave accounts as you add. Slaves can be other Tradovate accounts, Rithmic or TopstepX accounts, or forex and CFD accounts on MT4, MT5, cTrader and the other supported platforms. A Tradovate account can also be the slave of any of them.

The connection covers Tradovate brokerage accounts, NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts and prop firm accounts that run on Tradovate. It runs in the Heron Copier cloud only, so there is nothing to install and no VPS to keep online.

Sign in on Tradovate's own page

You do not type your Tradovate password into Heron Copier. In the dashboard, open Cloud Accounts, click +, choose Tradovate and click Connect Tradovate. Tradovate opens its own sign-in page, you log in and approve Heron Copier, and Heron Copier keeps only an encrypted connection token.

Then pick the account from the Trading Account list, choose master or slave, and click Launch. Prop firm accounts are listed as Demo / prop-firm, because the firm hosts them in Tradovate's demo environment.

You do not need the Tradovate API add-on or a market data subscription. Disconnect stops every copier that uses the login until you connect it again.

One login, many accounts

Tradovate allows two sessions per login. Heron Copier uses one of them, however many accounts you add from that login. Keep at most one other app signed in with the same login, whether that is the web, desktop or mobile app. If a third session opens, Tradovate closes the oldest one and a signal can be missed while the copier reconnects.

This matters most for prop firm traders who hold several evaluations under one login. All of them can copy through the same session.

Tradovate to Tradovate, Rithmic and TopstepX

The simplest setup is Tradovate to Tradovate: you trade one account and the others follow, each with its own size. Copying across futures platforms works the same way, and routes such as Rithmic to Tradovate are tested in production. You can also go the other way with Tradovate to Rithmic or Tradovate to TopstepX.

Masters send dated contract names such as MNQZ6. On a slave, an alias can name the bare product, which resolves to the front-month contract. An alias with a multiplier, such as ES=MES|10, turns one ES on the master into ten MES on the slave, and it matches dated contracts such as ESZ6.

Copy CFD trades to Tradovate

If you trade index CFDs on MetaTrader or cTrader, a Tradovate slave can follow them. Map each CFD to a futures product with an alias such as NAS100=MNQ or US30=MYM, then check the copied size on a demo account first, because CFD and futures contract sizes differ a lot. See MT5 to Tradovate and MT4 to Tradovate.

The reverse works too. A Tradovate master can feed a CFD account, for example Tradovate to MT5, with an alias that maps the contract to the slave's symbol.

How sizes and brackets are copied

Tradovate slaves send market orders in whole contracts. All six volume sizing methods are available, and the result is rounded to the nearest contract. Trades below half a contract are skipped. Fixed Lot is a whole number of contracts. The Fixed Risk methods use the contract's dollar value per point and round down; if the master trade has no stop loss, they open one contract.

With Copy TP and Copy SL enabled, the entry and its protective orders go out as one bracket that Tradovate links, so when one side fills the other is cancelled.

  • Per-symbol lot caps and symbol blacklists.
  • Balance or equity thresholds that stop copying before a drawdown limit.
  • Block trades that have no stop loss or no take profit on the master.
  • Position Resync, which closes copied positions that are no longer open on the master.
  • Auto symbol mapping, additional TP/SL in pips and TP/SL offsets are not available on Tradovate slaves.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Tradovate API add-on?

No. You sign in on Tradovate's page and approve Heron Copier. You do not need the API add-on or a market data subscription, and your password is never sent to Heron Copier.

Does it work with prop firm accounts on Tradovate?

Yes, prop firm evaluation and funded accounts that run on Tradovate can be masters or slaves. Check your firm's rules on copiers first. If an order is rejected because of agreements, accept the pending agreements in Tradovate and try again.

Can I keep the Tradovate app open while copying?

Yes, as long as only one other app is signed in with the same login. Tradovate allows two sessions per login and Heron Copier uses one. A third session makes Tradovate close the oldest.

Is my NinjaTrader account covered?

NinjaTrader Brokerage accounts share the Tradovate login and are covered. NinjaTrader 8 desktop accounts that connect through Rithmic or CQG are not. See the NinjaTrader trade copier page for how to check.

Can I copy futures with the free trial?

Yes. The 7-day trial includes 2 cloud accounts. During the trial a futures slave copies every trade at a fixed 1 contract; a paid license, from $19 a month, unlocks the other sizing methods.
